Early Heirloom Necklace 10350

Gold alloy, mutisala beads

Date unknown

10.5 x 0.5 in/26.5 x 1.5 cm

The orange beads on this necklace date to the 7th Century or earlier and were restricted to members of the royal family, with the orange color distinguishing nobles from commoners; the gold alloy beads are probably 17th/18th Century and show great wear. This necklace can still be used to barter for a horse on the outer islands.
