Kain Kebat Woman's Skirt 11647

Kantu Dayak, Borneo

Cotton; ikat

Early 20th Century

47 x 20 in/119 x 50 cm

This fine skirt was woven by the Kantu Dayak, an Ibanic sub-tribe living on the upper reaches of the Kapuas River in West Kalimantan. Their skirts are particularly prized and sought after by collectors because of the strength of their animistic vision; note in this case the rare "mask" faces at the top passage.
