Primitive Shamanic Mask 31278

Middle Hills, Nepal

Early 20th Century

8.5 in/22.5 cm
Ex Irwin Hersey

This mask at one time had a mustache and a beard attached by pitch but these accoutrements have been lost over time. So too, we sense the face may have been at one time covered with white kaolin, which would help us further identify it as part of the masques blanc group. In its present state, it can be appreciated by for its natural wood and simple geometric aesthetic.
