19th/early 20th Century

Textiles of this type are only found in old Dutch collections. They represent an interesting intersection between Austronesian pre-loom hand-woven mats and products of later, Indian influenced loom. Motifs are geometric, either of an archaic sort, dating to the Bronze Age or before, or displaying a subsequent patola influence which may have begun as early as the 10th Century.
