Rings of this type are inscribed an ancient kawi script with spiritual mantras that invoke good fortune. They are frequently called Majaphait rings in reference to the great 15^th Century East Javanese Kingdom but nowadays the general consensus among scholars is that they are earlier, dating to around the first Millennium.
